MPI, the worldwide leader in wax-room equipment is furthering its leadership position in the investment casting industry by donating a 25-ton wax injector toPittsburg State University (PSU) in Kansas. The new wax injector is installed in the metal casting lab at the Kansas Technology Center and is now ready for operation, just in time for the summer session at PSU.

Pittsburg State University is home to the onlyInvestment Casting Institute (ICI) Certification program in the world. Every year, metal casting professionals from around the world travel to PSU for an education on the latest technological breakthroughs in the industry. The week-long certification course includes a high concentration of hands-on training which will be greatly enhanced by the donation of this equipment.

Russ Rosmait, professor of engineering technology, said, “the injection press will be ‘fully integrated’ into the investment casting curriculum. The new equipment will bring real-world application to the classroom from tooling design and wax injection right on to final wax assembly.”

Rosmait praised MPI for its generosity. “This is the type of industry-leading machine we’ve wanted for quite some time,” Rosmait said, “but it has been out of our reach financially. We’re incredibly fortunate and grateful that MPI decided to invest so substantially in our program and donate this equipment to us.”

Bruce Phipps, President of MPI has been committed to supporting the mission of the investment casting industry for over 40 years. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Investment Casting Institute and currently serves on its Education Committee. He has also served as a teacher for the ICI Certification course at PSU since 2006.

“The program at Pitt State is excellent and needs state-of-the-art equipment to aid in training tomorrow’s leaders in investment casting. MPI has the best equipment, so when asked if I would contemplate making such a significant donation I considered it my responsibility to the industry,” says Bruce Phipps, President of MPI. “My goal is to promote the values that Pitt State and the ICI work hard to instill; good business practices start with sound equipment and a high degree of process control. I believe this donation demonstrates my commitment to these values.”

“The new wax injector will add a new level of learning to our investment casting process capability,” said Russ Rosmait. “The 25-ton press is capable of process monitoring that our current equipment is not. Real-time process control will enhance student interest and add greatly to their educational experience.”

The donation of the wax injector kicks off PSU’s mission to create a Center of Excellence in Metal Casting (CEMC). The goal of the Center is to develop a state-of-the-art laboratory which will produce top graduates in the metal casting industry. It will also become a permanent education and training resource for industry professionals where they can learn best practices, share knowledge and disseminate leading-edge solutions in the metal casting process. MPI is proud to be making such a significant contribution to the industry.
