This year, Bruce Phipps, President of MPI, Inc., was awarded the Manufacturing Champion Award in the private sector category. Bruce has been involved in the investment casting industry for over 40 years and MPI is acknowledged as the worldwide leader and innovator of wax-room equipment. MPI employs over 65 people in the US and has sales agents throughout the world. MPI equipment has been sold to 44 countries and exports their “Made-in-America” products to China.

“I am thrilled to be acknowledged by my colleagues at The Manufacturers Association of the Hudson Valley,” said MPI President Bruce Phipps. “I am extremely proud of our accomplishments and the contributions we have been able to make to the growth of the local economy. Some of the brightest minds in manufacturing can be found right here in the Hudson Valley.”

Bruce and his partner purchased the company in 1972 and developed what would be the first of many industry innovations. The Model 14 Universal Wax Injector was an industry favorite for over a decade and is still in use today. Under Bruce’s direction, MPI continues to develop dozens of industry-leading innovations, seven of which have been patented by MPI.

MPI has partnered with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and NY State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) in conjunction with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on several research and development projects including the creation of the prototype for their first automated pattern assembly system.

MPI continues to lead the industry in innovation by offering total wax-room automation from wax injection to wax assembly using integrated robotics technology. Several of the most advanced investment casting foundries in the world have incorporated MPI’s total automation into their facilities.

The Council of Industry identified the following characteristics of successful manufacturers; passion at the starting point, excellence in execution, innovation, focus and persistence. As an award winner, Bruce exemplifies those qualities and now finds himself among a highly respected group of manufacturing champions.
