This year’s theme revolved around the tremendous benefits that MPI customers are experiencing by incorporating automation into their wax room.

“The ICI Show is a great venue for us to present the significant technological advancements we’ve made in automation,” said Bruce Phipps, President, MPI. “It gives us an opportunity to show customers how automation can catapult their organization to a whole new level of performance and throughput. Interest in automation at the show was sky high.”

MPI’s presentation focused on several automation projects including their full line of automated injection cells. MPI chose to profile their Model 20-06 which is capable of producing wax patterns from the simplest commercial parts to complex patterns required by the medical and aerospace industries.

MPI also featured the Model 20-14, MPI’s second-generation Automated Pattern Assembly System. The 20-14 allows customers the flexibility to perform high quality, precision robotic assemblies from basic jobs to sophisticated multi-piece wax assemblies including single crystal turbine blades.

“Because of the number of automation cells MPI currently has in operation we have been able to quantify the truly amazing results that can be achieved,” said Jeff Rich, GM, MPI. “Our automation partners are seeing increased casting yields of up to 30%, reduced scrap by 50%, cycle times that are 2 – 5 times faster, and perfect patterns and assemblies 100% of the time.”

Booth visitors were also impressed to learn that operation of MPI’s automated cells did not require any robot programming knowledge because the robot controls are integrated into the easy-to-use touch screen interface.

Also popular at the MPI booth were the 3-dimensional cubes that MPI gave away. The cube could be opened in multiple directions which provided a visual tour of MPI’s 20-14 automated pattern assembly system.

MPI extends its gratitude to the Investment Casting Institute for putting on a great show and to all the wonderful people that stopped by to learn more about MPI automated cells.

About MPI: MPI is the worldwide leader in wax-room equipment and has been involved in the investment casting industry since 1972. As the acknowledged leader in wax-room innovations, MPI has developed and introduced more systems and products than all of our competition combined.

MPI’s mission is simple – to be the most technically advanced supplier of wax-room equipment in the casting industry and to provide customers with throughput solutions that yield the highest return on their equipment investment.
