MPI’s latest technological breakthrough, the Automated Pattern Assembly System (APAS) is the world’s first fully-automated, high accuracy pattern assembly system and is considered the most innovative product in the investment casting industry today. It was designed to meet today’s new wax-room challenges.
The benefits of total automation with APAS are substantial – not only in terms of productivity and uniformity, but in terms of the dramatic impact it can have on profitability. With the APAS you can eliminate the skilled labor necessary for manual pattern assembly and replace them with a single machine operator who can be trained in a single day. The operator interface terminal utilizes stored recipes to insure consistent and dependable operator results with virtually no supervision.

Total automation means that assembly variations are completely eliminated which improves throughput and increases casting yields. Cycle times are 2 to 5 times faster than with manual assembly and you will experience high quality welds 100% of the time. The APAS is truly the missing link to total foundry automation.”
Using grippers or vacuum technology, the APAS can pick up any pattern that is currently being lifted by a human hand. The number of wax patterns placed on a runner can be substantially increased because robotics allows for highly accurate and repeatable placement, dramatically increasing overall casting yields by 10 – 30%.

The APAS supports all pattern waxes and reclaimed waxes that are currently used for hand welding assemblies. This highly versatile machine offers quick change tooling. Changeovers from job to job can occur in less than 5 minutes. Also the APAS can easily convert from a high volume set-up to a low volume set-up in 5 minutes or less. Other benefits of APAS include excellent fillet welds, elimination of wax dripping, reduced pattern drop off and reduced shell inclusions.
Automated injection cells are also available to perform secondary operations that range from pattern injection to completed pattern assembly. Whatever your preference, automation has proven time and again that a robotics-based machine can outperform manually operated machines in accuracy, repeatability and efficiency.
The team at MPI offers a free wax-room evaluation. MPI engineers will tour your facility and perform an exhaustive review of your current process and help you to understand what type of return on investment (ROI) you may experience as a result of increased performance and cost savings. MPI can also perform an APAS demonstration at MPI’s world headquarters in Poughkeepsie, NY where customers can see firsthand how the APAS can continuously produce high volume, consistent, repeatable, accurate, high-quality wax assemblies.
